MALIBU, California – Adam Csapo of the Pepperdine men's water polo team received the final Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week award on Thursday, his second such honor of the season.
Csapo (Budapest, Hungary), a freshman attacker, had five goals and an assist in Pepperdine's 13-12 comeback win over #8 UC Santa Barbara to close out the regular season on Saturday. Three of his goals came in the fourth quarter. The Waves trailed by as many as four goals in the third quarter, and it was 9-7 Gauchos entering the fourth quarter. Csapo's final goal tied the game with 52 seconds left. The five goals marked his third-highest output of the season.
On Wednesday, Csapo was selected to the All-GCC second team and to the WCC All-Freshman team. He was the only freshman to make the All-GCC first team, second team or honorable mention. Csapo is tied for the team lead with 49 goals (tied for sixth in the GCC) and he's seventh in points with 74.
Csapo was previously named GCC Player of the Week on October 6. The Waves had a total of three weekly awards this season, with
Dennis Blyashov also collecting one on October 13. It's the first time in the GCC era that the Waves have had someone earn Player of the Week honors twice in one season. Csapo will also go down as the conference's final Player of the Week ever, as the league's schools are moving into either the West Coast Conference or Big West Conference next season.
The Waves (13-13, 2-3) tied for fourth in the GCC. They'll be the #5 seed at this weekend's GCC Tournament, which is being hosted by UC Santa Barbara. Pepperdine will open up against UC Irvine on Friday (Nov. 18) at 5 p.m.
