#22 Waves Topple #14 Arizona in Home Opener

MALIBU, California – The #22 Pepperdine men's tennis program won its home opener against a ranked opponent on Sunday afternoon, defeating #14 Arizona 5-2.

All three doubles matches were close throughout, with the pair of Corrado Summaria (Cosenza, Italy) and Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) becoming the first to win at 6-4. Shortly after, Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) and Andrew Rogers (Brentwood, Tenn.) clinched the doubles point with another 6-4 win. This was the pair's second doubles win of the dual season.

In singles, the first winner was Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) on court one with a straight-set win over Gustaf Strom. Eric Hadigian (Sacramento, Calif) followed soon after with his first dual win as a Wave, taking court six in straight sets. After court three went to Arizona (2-1), Pepperdine needed one win from courts five and two to secure the win. Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) was victorious in a three-set tiebreaker to clinch the top-15 win for Pepperdine (1-1).

QUOTABLE

Head Coach Adam Schaechterle said: "Arizona has one of the best coaching staffs in college tennis. Clancy has built an incredible culture and they are so tough to beat. That's why this match means so much to our program. To come out on top of a war with that team is special. It's a long year, but we took a big step forward tonight. I love our squad and we are excited to keep building."
