LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Pepperdine women's tennis program started 2022 with a pair of ranked wins on Friday, sending four singles players and three doubles teams to the quarterfinals of the Freeman Memorial Championship hosted by UNLV.
The highlight of the day came when
Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Florida) earned a straight-set win over #9-ranked Connie Ma from Stanford in the singles round of 16. This was Redelijk's second ranked win of the day after defeating #87 Emma Shelton from Florida in the round of 32 session on Friday morning.
All eight singles victories on Friday for the Waves came in straight sets.
In doubles, the pair of
Victoria Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and
Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden), ranked #11 nationally, earned a bye to the quarterfinals, which will be played on Saturday. The teams of
Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan)/Redelijk and
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas)/
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) cruised in the round of 16 to earn a trip to the quarters on Saturday morning.
