Waves' Freshmen Have Good Start at Red Sky

WOLCOTT, Colorado – Freshmen Milla Sagel and Lauren Gomez both went below-par to lead the Pepperdine women's golf team at Monday's first round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic. The Waves are in 11th place as a team.

Pepperdine shot an opening 289 at the par-72 Red Sky Golf Club.

PLAYER SCORES

Freshman Milla Sagel (Bielefeld, Germany) is tied for fifth place after a 4-under 68. It's her second straight below-par round after finishing off week's Badger Invitational with a 1-under 71. She had five birdies – three of them coming in the final five holes – and just one bogey on the day.
Freshman Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) is tied for 24th after a 1-under 71. She had three birdies, including two in the final four holes.
Sophomore Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for 51st after a 74. She had four birdies today.
Graduate student Megan Dennis (Bedfordshire, United Kingdom) is tied for 75th after a 76. She had three birdies in the first round.
Sophomore Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for 92nd after a 78. She had two birdies on Monday.
Playing as an individual, senior Sifan He (Shanghai, China) is tied for 100th after an 81. She had one birdie today.

UP NEXT

For Tuesday's second round, the Waves will be paired with Rutgers, Delaware and Minnesota and they'll start on the first tee beginning at 9:50 a.m. MT.
