#23 Waves Beat Lipscomb in OT 1-0

Nashville, Tenn.Joelle Anderson's 95th-minute goal gave the Pepperdine women's soccer team its first overtime win of the season, defeating Lipscomb 1-0 on Thursday night.

The Waves (4-1-0) put pressure on the Bisons (4-1-0) throughout the match and had some good opportunities, but needed extra time to collect the victory. Zoe Clevely (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) and the defense earned their third shutout of the season. The Waves out shot all five of their opponents, including today 21-11.

GOALS
Pepperdine 95': The pass from graduate student defender Kailee Gifford (San Jose Calif./The Harker School/California) was headed towards freshman midfielder Tabitha LaParl (Lakewood, Calif./Los Alamitos HS), but bounced off the foot of LaParl and a Bisons defender, to the right foot of Anderson (San Jose Calif./The Harker School), who got control of the ball, and put it into the far corner of the net for her second goal of the season and first game-winning goal of the year. This marks Anderson's 26th goal of her Waves' career, giving her sole possession of seventh place all-time at Pepperdine.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Tim Ward said: "That was an amazing soccer game, two teams fully committed to playing with a strong and beautiful spirit.I was so impressed with both teams tonight.

"And what a big goal from Joelle…I'm not sure how the ball ended up in her path but when she finished it into the far corner of the net, the team just exploded off of the bench!

"Although I'm super pleased with the outcome, it almost feels secondary to what I would call a 'divine appointment' between two amazing Division 1 programs. In all my years, this will surely rank as one of the most special evenings of soccer I've ever experienced. Wishing Lipscomb only the best and super grateful for who they are as a program!"
