Baseball WCC All-Academic Honors Released

MALIBU, California – Seven members of the Pepperdine baseball team received West Coast Conference All-Academic honorable mention status today.

The Waves who were honored were senior C Joe Caparis, junior RHP Cooper Chandler, senior OF Billy Cook, senior RHP Trevor Franklin, junior RHP Gunnar Groen, senior RHP Michael Mahony and senior IF Aharon Modlin.

To be nominated, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing, and be significant contributors over the course of the season.

It's the fourth time that Mahony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) and Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) have received honorable mention status. It's the third time for Cook (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer HS) and the second time for Groen (Austin, Texas/Westlake HS). Chandler was on the first team in 2020. Caparis (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) and Franklin (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) were recognized for the first time.

Cook also made the All-WCC first team in 2021. The Waves wrapped up the season with a 20-25 record and finished seventh in the WCC at 12-15.
