Pepperdine Falls to Portland in Series Finale

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pepperdine baseball team got two runs early, but could not get any more across the plate on Sunday, falling to Portland 6-2.

The Waves (15-21, 7-11 WCC) jumped out to an early lead, but the Pilots () rallied back to tie the game and then take the lead on a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth.

The Waves got on the board first in the third inning. Joe Caparis (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) drew a walk and advanced to second on a Wyatt Young (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) single. Cook then doubled, scoring Caparis from second. Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Young from third. Pepperdine led 2-0 through three innings.

The Pilots answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at two through five.

In the sixth, Portland got a grand slam to take a 6-2 lead, which they would not relinquish.

The Waves return to Malibu for the final home series of the year, taking on Santa Clara. Game one will be Friday, May 14 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.

BIG WAVES
- Freshman outfielder Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y./Trinity-Pauling HS) was the only Wave with more than one hit. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a single.
- Senior utility Billy Cook (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer HS) had an RBI double in the third inning to give the Waves the lead.
- Freshman RHP Brandon Llewellyn (Colleyville, Texas/IMG Academy) threw 5.0 innings, giving up just two runs and struck out two batters.
