BIG WAVES
- Senior outfielder Billy Cook (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer HS) continued his scorching hot conference play, hitting his fourth home run in two games. He added another hit on the day as well.
- Senior infielder Justin Lutes (Las Vegas, Nev./College of Southern Nevada) got his 14th home run of the year as part of the five-run third inning.
- Sophomore utility Ryan Johnson (Tempe, Ariz./Seton Catholic HS) went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves got off to a great start in the top of the first. Wyatt Young (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) led the game off with a double. He was quickly driven in on a Reese Alexiades (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) double. Then, Cook hit a blast into left field, over the wall for a three-run home run. An RBI groundout from Johnson gave the Waves a 4-0 lead through an inning of play.
Â
In the third, John Peck (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) doubled into left field, and was brought home on Lutes' 14th homer of the year. A bases loaded walk to Alexiades gave the Waves a 7-0 lead. Cook then hit a ball through the left side for a 2-RBI single, bringing home the Waves' eighth and ninth runs of the game. Pepperdine led 9-0 through three innings.
Â
Joe Caparis (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth, and Young had a sacrifice fly to give the Waves an 11-0 lead through four innings.
Â
After two walks and a wild pitch, Cook and Lutes scored on a single up the middle from Johnson. In the bottom half of the inning, Pacific got three runs, and the Waves led 13-3 through five innings of play.
Â
In the seventh, Pacific added a run, cutting the lead to 13-4 in favor of the Waves after seven innings.
Â
The Tigers added a two-run home run in the ninth but could not come all the way back against the Waves.
