Menante, Men's Golf Open Up Big Leads in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Georgia – Dylan Menante and the Pepperdine men's golf team could hardly have asked for a better first two rounds at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational on Saturday, as the Waves have sizeable leads in both the team and individual competitions.

The Waves are at a 28-under 548 (272-276) after 36 holes at the par-72 Forest Hills Golf Club. It's an impressive field that features three top-10 teams by Golfstat, and the Waves are one of six in the top 25. Pepperdine leads #3 Oklahoma State by nine shots and #5 Illinois by 11 heading into the final round.

The 16-under in the first round tied the seventh-best round in program history, while the 28-under is the fourth-best 36-hole score ever.

Pepperdine has already won three tournaments in 2020-21. The Waves are attempting to win four in a single season for the first time in program history.

PLAYER SCORES
- Sophomore Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) has opened up a four-shot lead in the individual competition with a 12-under 132 (67-65). His 5-under in the first round had five birdies and zero miscues. His 7-under in the second round featured nine birdies, which included a run of seven over an eight-hole span.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for third with a 7-under 137 (69-68). He went 3-under in the first round with six birdies, and 4-under in the second round with three birdies and an eagle.
- Sophomore William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 12th with a 4-under 140 (67-73). He had five birdies in a flawless morning round, and four more birdies in the afternoon.
- Junior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 24th with a 1-under 143 (73-70). Six of his 11 birdies on the day came in the second round.
- Junior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 29th with an even-par 144 (69-75). Five of his eight birdies came in his 3-under first round.
