#11 Waves Close Stanford Tournament with 4-1 Win over Saint Mary's

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The #11 Pepperdine beach volleyball team closed out the final weekend of regular season action with a 4-1 win over Saint Mary's in a tournament hosted by #10 Stanford. Earlier in the day, the Waves were downed by the Cardinal after a tight 3-2 battle.

The Waves (11-15) one and three positions went undefeated throughout the day, with Carly Skjodt and Melanie Paul in the No. 1 slot and Sutton Mactavish and Simone Priebe in the No. 3 position collecting on two-set wins in both duals.

On April 30 and May 1, the Waves will begin the postseason push with the West Coast Conference Championships, set to be played at Dockweiler Beach in El Segundo, Calif.

MATCH RECAPS
In the first matchup, Stanford pulled ahead in the first flight with a pair of wins on courts two and four. Also in the flight, Brigid Rasmussen and Cameron Dueck posted a two-set win for the Waves in the No. 6 exhibition position.

Though Sutton Mactavish and Simone Priebe collected a win in the No. 3 position, the Cardinal was able to secure a two-set win in the No. 5 slot to clinch the overall victory. Carly Skjodt and Melanie Paul closed out the dual on a high note, however, posting a two-set win in the No. 1 slot.

In the second dual of the day, the consolation match, Pepperdine came out strong, putting up a 2-0 advantage over Saint Mary's. First, Alexis Filippone and Brook Bauer put in a tough three-set 21-11, 12-21, 15-10 victory in the No. 2 position to pull ahead. Mary Sinclair and Gracie Pedersen capped off the flight with a win as well, coming back from a 21-19 first set loss to win the following sets 21-18, 15-10 to give Pepperdine the lead.

In the second flight, Saint Mary's was able to get on the board with a win in the No. 5 position, but the Waves were quick to clinch on the top court.

Skjodt and Paul picked up a 21-17, 21-16 win to secure the overall victory and Mactavish and Priebe closed out the dual with a 21-17, 21-10 win in the No. 3 position to end the weekend.
