ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The Pepperdine women's golf team is tied for first place after Sunday's first two rounds at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, and
Kaleiya Romero is in fourth place.
After a 36-hole day, the Waves have a 1-over 577 (290-287) at the par-72 UNM Championship Golf Course. Pepperdine was tied for third after the first round, six shots back, but the Waves then had the best second-round score of any team. Pepperdine is tied with Denver. Seven shots or fewer separate the top nine teams.
Pepperdine will be going for its fourth-ever win at the McGuire (2005, 2009, 2013) on Monday.
PLAYER SCORES
- Freshman Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) had the best day of her young college career, and she's in fourth place with a 4-under 140 (71-69). Her 1-under morning round included three birdies. Her 3-under afternoon round featured six birdies. She heads into the final round three shots out of the lead.
- Freshman Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for 16th at 145 (72-73). Four of her six birdies came in the first round.
- Freshman Caroline Hwang (Orlando, Fla.) is also tied for 16th at 145 (73-72). She had five birdies in the morning and four in the afternoon.
- Senior Megan Dennis (Bedfordshire, United Kingdom) is tied for 27th at 147 (74-73). Three of her five birdies took place in the second round.
- Sophomore Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is tied for 43rd at 151 (75-76). She had three birdies on the day.

The Waves are paired with players from either Denver or Washington for Monday's third and final round. They'll begin teeing off at 8:24 a.m. MT.
