Watson Earns WCC Soccer Defensive Award

MALIBU, California – The #25 Pepperdine women's soccer team picked up its second consecutive West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week award today, with junior defender Trinity Watson collecting the honor.

In addition to leading the Pepperdine defense to its second consecutive WCC shutout, Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) assisted on the game-winning goal in the 69th minute of the 1-0 victory over San Francisco. She took the ball in her defensive end, dribbled into USF's side of the field, then played a picture-perfect through ball ahead of teammate Joelle Anderson, who finished the play for the game's only goal.

Watson and the Pepperdine defense have helped the Waves to outshoot the opponent in all five games this season (11-9 on Saturday, with only one of the Dons' attempts on goal).

It's the first career WCC weekly award for Watson, who earned All-WCC first team recognition in 2019.

Last week, redshirt junior goalkeeper Zoe Clevely (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) earned the WCC's Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Pepperdine (3-2-0, 2-0-0) visits Pacific this Saturday (March 13) at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed online via the WCC Network.
