Holmberg's Third-Place Finishes Lead Waves at Pepperdine Diving Invitational

Malibu, Calif. — Led by Paulina Holmberg's third-place finishes in the 1-meter and the 3-meter dives, four Pepperdine divers competed at the Pepperdine Diving Invitational at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on Friday, March 12. Divers from Azusa Pacific and Biola also participated in the event, which was the first time the Waves divers have competed in nearly two months.
"I'm really happy with how they did today," Pepperdine diving coach Kaeden Cogbill said. "They've been working a lot of newer and harder dives over the past few weeks, and so the past couple of weeks has just been getting those dives off."
Friday marked the first time that the Waves have been at full-strength. Freshman Bri Cannon (Katy, Texas./Katy HS) made her collegiate home debut by placing seventh in the 1-meter dive. Sophomore Olivia Stotz (Western Spring, Ill./Lyons Township HS) made her season-debut in the same event; she placed ninth. In addition, freshman Anna Johnson (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme HS) was the only other Wave to score in both dives. Johnson placed eighth in the 1-meter and 7th in the 3-meter.
All told, the young Pepperdine diving team gained more experience today, which will be invaluable for the PCSC Championships one month away.
"They've done a really good job. They're still getting used to competing at a college level, but they're making a lot of progress," Cogbill said.
Azusa Pacific's Amy Crayne won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, while Biola's Westin Dawe won both dives on the men's side.

UP NEXT: Pepperdine hosts Biola on Saturday, March 13. The meet, which starts at 11 a.m., will be livestreamed on WaveCasts via the WCC Network.
