SOMIS, California – Strong winds and a tough course made it a difficult first round for the women's golf teams at the Bruin Wave Invitational on Monday. Co-host Pepperdine is in eighth place.
The Waves shot a first-round 319 at the par-72 Saticoy Club. Oregon, one of three Pac-12 schools in the top four, has a three-shot lead and is 13 strokes ahead of the Waves.
The average score on Monday was 81.43 shots.
PLAYER SCORES
- Sophomore Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is tied for eighth place after a 76. She had a team-high four birdies.
- Senior Megan Dennis (Bedfordshire, United Kingdom) is tied for 21st with a 79. She posted three birdies.
- Freshman Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for 28th at 80. She had one birdie.
- Freshman Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for 57th after an 84.
- Freshman Caroline Hwang (Orlando, Fla.) is tied for 63rd with an 85.
- Playing as an individual, junior Sifan He (Shanghai, China) is tied for 77th after a 90. She had one birdie.
UP NEXT
Tuesday's second round will tee off at 8 a.m. The Waves will be paired with Nebraska and Cal State Fullerton. Due to COVID-19 protocols, spectators are not permitted.
