Pepperdine Falls to BYU in Provo

PROVO, Utah – The Pepperdine women's basketball team gave BYU a tough first half on Thursday, but ultimately fell 75-61 in a West Coast Conference matchup. Monique Andriuolo led the Waves with 17 points and five rebounds.
The Waves (3-11, 0-10 WCC) made a run at a comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars (10-3, 6-2 WCC) had built up too great of a deficit.
BIG WAVES
The Waves got on the board first on a Givens jumper and were quickly answered by the Cougars in a common theme in the first. There were six tie scores in the period, but BYU made the last two shots to take a 16-12 lead going into the second. The Waves tied the game at 16, but BYU retook the lead at 18-16 and never relinquished it again. Andriuolo and Tara Dusharm (Foley, Minn./Saint Louis) each had four points in the second quarter as the Cougars led 34-28 at the break.
The second half was much of the same, as the Cougars led by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter. Pepperdine went on an 11-0 run in the fourth, but BYU answered with a 9-0 run of their own. Givens and Andriuolo scored 17 of the Waves' 33 points in the second half.

The Waves are on the road again on Saturday, taking on San Diego with a 2 pm tip.
