Waves Take Home Victory on Senior Night

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team sent its seniors off in style on Saturday, defeating Saint Mary's 62-42 at home on Senior Day. Kendyl Carson had a career day, scoring 18 points in the victory.

Before the game, the Waves (5-15, 2-14 WCC) honored their four seniors: Mia Satie, who opted out of the season due the COVID-19 pandemic, Monique Andriuolo, Tara Dusharm and Haley Duren.

BIG WAVES
  • Freshman forward Kendyl Carson (Juneau, Alaska/Juneau Douglas HS) scored a career-high 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. She also had three assists.
  • Senior forward Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia/Maribyrnong Secondary College) scored eight points and led the Waves with 12 rebounds.
  • Senior Center Tara Dusharm (Foley, Minn./Saint Louis) had six points and seven rebounds.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
After the Gaels scored the first two points of the game, the Waves took off, going on a 17-2 run to end the quarter. Carson led the way for the Waves scoring eight points in the quarter and making both of her three-pointers. After the first quarter, the Waves led 17-4. The Waves kept up the scoring to start the second half, scoring eight more unanswered points, for a total run of 25-2 over the Gaels. Saint Mary's settled in after that, and kept pace with the Waves in the second quarter. After two quarters of play, the Waves led 36-20.

In the second half, the Gaels only got to within 15 points once, with 8:55 left in the third. Pepperdine grew its lead to as many as 23 points and led 52-31 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. The final period was more of the same, as the Waves and Gaels traded baskets before the final buzzer blew, signifying the Waves' victory.

  • The Waves outshot the Gaels 40% to 30%.
  • Pepperdine also dominated from deep, making 43% of their three-pointers, while Saint Mary's made just 17%.
  • The Waves controlled the glass, bringing down 46 rebounds, 12 more than the Gaels' 24.
