Women's Basketball Hosts Cal State L.A. in Exhibition

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine women's basketball team will play host to Cal State L.A. on Friday for an exhibition, before the regular season starts on Nov. 10.
GAME INFO: Friday (Nov. 5) at 7 p.m. at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, Calif.: Pepperdine vs. Cal State L.A. (exhibition).
WATCH/TICKETS: Although admission is free to the exhibition, patrons must have an e-ticket prior to arriving on campus. Pepperdine students, staff and faculty just need their Pepperdine ID card for entry. Tickets can be found at pepperdinewaves.com/tickets. The exhibition will also be streamed live via the WCC Network.
PEPPERDINE: The Waves look to improve this season after a tough 2020-21 season which resulted in a 5-18 record. Pepperdine has built itself a strong non-conference schedule that includes games with UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Fullerton, CSU Bakersfield and UAB, before taking on their foes of the West Coast Conference.
DOWLING: Kristen Dowling enters her third season at the helm of the women's basketball program. After two seasons with the Waves, her record is 21-33 and through nine years as a head coach, she is 168-79. In her first season with the Waves, she led the 2019-20 team to a 16-15 overall record, including an 8-10 WCC record and reached the semifinals of the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas.
THE TEAM: Pepperdine returns a total of 11 players from last year's squad: two seniors (Malia Bambrick, Cheyenne Givens), three juniors (Cydney Rivera, Jayda Ruffus-Milner, Jayla Ruffus-Milner), two redshirt juniors (Eve Braslis, Becky Obinma), three sophomores (Kendyl Carson, Jane Nwaba, Isabel Montoya) and redshirt freshman Rosemary Odebunmi. Joining the team this year are freshmen Meaali'i Amosa, Helena Friend and Ally Stedman.
UP NEXT: The Waves begin regular-season play on the road at UCLA on Wednesday, November 10. Pepperdine's home opener is November 14 against Eastern Washington at 2 p.m.
