Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE, California – The #8 Pepperdine men's water polo team had a successful day at the Lancer Joust Tournament, edging the host and 19th-ranked California Baptist 9-7 before going on to beat Concordia 19-5 on Saturday.
The Waves (12-7), who ran their winning streak to six games, have never lost to the Lancers (11-10) or the Eagles (5-10) in 10 and 12 meetings, respectively.

- Senior attacker Balazs Kosa (Budapest, Hungary) scored five goals on the day, including four of them against CBU. He scored the final two goals of the game to account for the two-goal margin of victory.
- Senior goalie John Claude Marco (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) made 10 saves against the Lancers, including a crucial block of a potential game-tying penalty shot with 38 seconds left.
- Junior utility Zach Arthur (Redlands, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS) led the Waves with three goals against Concordia.
- Redshirt freshman goalie Justin Edward (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Dana Hills HS) and junior goalie Spencer Tybur (The Woodlands, Texas/Golden West College) both saw action against the Eagles and made eight and three saves, respectively.
GAME #1 RECAP
The Waves scored the first two goals of the game, but the Lancers netted the next three to take what would turn out to be their only lead of the game at 3-2. The Waves responded with goals by Kosa and sophomore attacker
Christian Hosea (San Clements, Calif./San Clemente HS) to go back in front 4-3, but every time the Waves took a one-goal lead, the Lancers tied it up again. The contest had six ties in all (at two, three, four, five, six and seven).
Pepperdine led 7-6 after three quarters, but CBU tied it with three minutes to play. Kosa's third goal came on the power play to put Pepperdine in front 8-7 with 2:20 left. This time, however, the Lancers did not tie the game up, as the Waves held defensively on the final three possessions, including a block by Marco on a five-meter penalty with 38 seconds remaining. The Waves got the ball back and Kosa scored into an empty net as time expired.
