Waves Head to WCC Championships in Concord

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams are headed north to run at the West Coast Conference Championship meet on Friday morning. The Waves will have 10 runners on the women's side and nine runners on the men side compete in the East Bay.Â

The race will be held at Newhall Community Park in Concord, Calif., on Friday and Saint Mary's will be serving as the host of the WCC Championship meet. The women's 6K will start at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 11 a.m.. The meet will be live streamed on the WCC Network.Â

MEN'S TEAM
Seniors Jackson Felkins (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Senior HS), Karl Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) and Kyle McCabe (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family HS) were the #1-3 runners for the Waves this season. All three seniors posted their season-best showings at the Bronco Invitational, including a new school record by Felkins in a time of 24:01.1. Felkins, Winter and McCabe all sit in the top five on the Pepperdine all-time performance list including Felkins and Winter at the number one and two spots.Â
The Waves' #4 and #5 runners for the season were sophomores Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) and Nathaniel Lannen (Southlake, Texas/Carroll HS), who also posted their season bests and personal records at the Bronco Invitational. Flint sits at the 10th spot on the Pepperdine all-time performance list.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the only cross country meet last season was the WCC Championships. McCabe led the men's team to a fifth-place finish with a time of 24:58.1. The men's team had the best Pepperdine finish at the conference race since placing fifth in 2008. The team's best-ever finish was third in 1997.
WOMEN'S TEAM
Freshman Megan LaCamera (Burbank, Calif./Burbank HS) led the women's team two out of the four regular-season meets. In the last meet LaCamera posted a personal record in the women's 6K with a time of 22:28.1, which put her on the Pepperdine all-time performance list at 17th. Senior Riley Wright (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) was the top runner for the Waves at the UC Riverside Invitational with a time of 22:33.6, which was a personal record and put her 18th on the Pepperdine all-time performance list.Â
At the Bronco Invitational, the team's #2-5 runners were junior Olivia Miller (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS), freshman Eden Mittelsdorf (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS), junior Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) and senior Annelies Ondersma (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./University Liggett School).
In the 2020 WCC Championships, senior Key Pearson (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Vistamar School) was the top finisher on the women's side with a time of 23:39.3. The women have improved in every meet this season and have had their eyes on the WCC Championships since the start for a good team finish. The team's best-ever finish was second in 1988, 1993 and 1999.

The Waves will have a two-week break before traveling back to Northern California for the NCAA West Regional on November 12 in Sacramento.Â
