Waves Fall to #6 Pacific on Senior Day

MALIBU, California – Christian Hosea tied his career high with four goals, but the #9 Pepperdine men's water polo team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end with a 12-10 loss to #6 Pacific on Saturday morning in Golden Coast Conference play.
 
The Tigers (9-8, 3-0) outdueled the Waves (13-8, 1-1) on the power play, going for 6-for-13 to Pepperdine's 3-for-9.
 
The final home game of the season also served as Pepperdine's Senior Day.
 
BIG WAVES
  • Sophomore attacker Christian Hosea (San Clements, Calif./San Clemente HS) previously scored four goals against Westcliff earlier this season.
  • Sophomores Jake Howerton (Cardiff, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) and Nico Tierney (Sierra Madre, Calif./Harvard-Westlake HS) both had two goals and two assists.
  • Senior goalie John Claude Marco (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) made six saves.
GAME RECAP
 
Down 3-2 entering the second quarter, the Waves scored three in a row, one by Tierney to tie it, one by Howerton to give them their first lead, and one by Hosea to make it a two-goal game. But, Pacific scored the final two goals of the half to make it 5-5 at the break.
 
The Tigers had a big third quarter, outscoring the Waves 6-2. Tied at six after a Howerton goal, Pacific ran off three straight goals, and five of the next six, to make it 11-7 heading into the fourth period. The Waves bounced back and outplayed the Tigers in the final quarter, but ended up two goals short.
