Highsmith, Waves Still Lead After Two Rounds in Georgia

ALPHARETTA, Georgia – Joe Highsmith and the Pepperdine men's golf team keep posting birdies and continue to lead after Saturday's second round at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.

The Waves have a two-day total of a 26-under 550 (275-275). After beginning the day tied with Texas A&M, Pepperdine now leads the Aggies by four and Tennessee by eight. The 26-under is good for sixth all-time in Pepperdine history after 36 holes.

Highsmith, with a 16-under 128, has a two-shot lead. The 16-under is the second-best score ever posted by a Wave after two rounds, trailing a 17-under by Frederick Wedel at the 2014 Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational.

The tournament features eight teams currently in Golfstat's top 25.

- Senior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) leads Wake Forest's Alex Fitzpatrick by two shots. Highsmith has shot 63-65 for his 16-under 128. He posted seven more birdies on Saturday, plus an eagle on the par-5 11th hole, to score 7-under on the day. He'll be going for his second collegiate win on Sunday.
- Junior William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for eighth place with a 5-under 139 (70-69). His 3-under second round included three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 first hole.
- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 21st with a 2-under 142 (69-73). He had three birdies today.
- Senior Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 33rd with an even-par 144 (73-71). His 1-under on Saturday featured three birdies.
- Junior Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is also tied for 33rd with an even-par 144 (74-70). His 2-under second round included five birdies, all of them coming on the front nine.
