Men's Golf Makes Move at Southwestern

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, California – The Pepperdine men's golf team posted the best round of the day at 11-under to make a move up the leaderboard at the Waves' own Southwestern Invitational, presented by Topgolf, on Tuesday.

The top-ranked Waves jumped up four spots after improving by 31 strokes from Monday to Tuesday. They're now in fifth place with a two-day total of 585 (308-277) at the par-72 North Ranch Country Club. Arizona State has a five-shot lead and is 11 strokes ahead of the Waves.

The Waves will be part of the first pairing to start on Wednesday morning for the third and final round. Pepperdine will be paired with Georgia Tech, USC and California and they'll start on first tee at 7:45 a.m. The leaders will tee off beginning at 8:55 a.m. Because of COVID-19 protocols, spectators are not permitted. There will again be live coverage on the Golf Channel beginning at noon PT.

- Senior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) had the second-best round of the day, a 5-under 67, to move him up to a tie for fifth place with a 1-under 143 (76-67). He had an eagle on the par-4 fifth hole and had a total of six birdies, including three straight from 10-12.
- Playing as an individual, senior RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is also tied for fifth with a 1-under 143 (74-69). His 3-under today featured six birdies.
- Sophomore Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for ninth with an even-par 144 (76-68). His round began with eight straight pars, followed by his only bogey. He then had five birdies on the back nine, including each of his final three holes.
- Playing as an individual, senior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) is tied for 12th at 145 (72-73). He had two birdies on Tuesday.
- Junior Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 26th at 149 (77-72). His even-par round included an eagle on the par-5 12th as well as four other birdies.
- Sophomore William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) saw a 10-shot improvement from day to day and is now tied for 31st at 150 (80-70). His 2-under featured six birdies, including three straight on holes 10-12.
- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for 46th at 154 (79-75). He had four birdies, including a run of three straight from 15-17.
- Playing as an individual, senior Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) is tied for 50th at 156 (80-76). He had two birdies on Tuesday.
