MALIBU, Calif. – After the fall season was postponed due to the ensuing pandemic, the Pepperdine men's water polo team has its schedule for the 2020-21 spring season, with its first game Saturday against Air Force.
"It's been over a year since we've had a game," said head coach Terry Schroeder. "But we are super excited to start play, and I know the guys are ready to get in the water and play against another team finally."
The Waves will play a total of 12 games, with the possibility of adding three more in February, and will look to repeat as Golden Coast Conference champions and return to the NCAA Championships in March.
Of the six teams in the GCC, only Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara will play during the season, with Pacific, Long Beach State, San Jose State and UC Irvine all opting out of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Waves and Gauchos will play a total of five times, with two sets of double headers, one at each school, as well as the final game of the year at Pepperdine on March 6.
Pepperdine will also match up with one of the top teams in the nation at least twice, playing a home-and-home series against UCLA (2/10 at UCLA, 2/25 at home).
Rounding out the schedule are games against Western Water Polo Association foes Air Force (1/23 at home and 2/27 in Riverside, Calif.) Loyola Marymount (2/14 in Los Angeles) and California Baptist (2/17 and 2/28, both in Riverside).
