COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Jessica Failla of the Pepperdine women's tennis team took charge in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's National Summer Championships on Tuesday morning, competing unattached and winning the title over West Coast Conference foe Solymar Colling of San Diego.
In route to the championship, Failla defeated the likes of Saniya Singh 6-3, 6-1, Berta Bonardi 6-1, 1-6, 1-0, Jeanette Mireles 6-1, 6-0, Leyden Games 6-2, 6-1 and Maria Kononova 6-1, 6-4 before meeting up with San Diego junior Colling, where Failla took the match 6-2, 6-1.
The graduate student won three previous Universal Tennis Rating (UTR)-sponsored tournaments before the ITA Summer Nationals, taking the 7K Red River Open, 10K South Dakota Adult Open and the 7K Midland Scientific Firecracker Open.
In the last ITA polls released on March 3
rd, Failla clocked in at #35 in singles and #55 in doubles with partner
Anastasia Iamachkine and confirmed her return to Malibu for the 2020-21 season earlier this year.
