MALIBU, Calif. – The 19th-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team continues to progress even after the halting of the 2020 dual season with the signing of
Guy Den Ouden of the Netherlands, head coach
Adam Schaechterle announced Wednesday afternoon.
"We locked in on Guy early in the recruiting cycle, and felt like he was a perfect fit for our program. He is a world class junior and would have played in all the Grand Slams this year," Schaechterle said.
"But, beyond his talent level, we deeply connected on our shared approach to development. We are thrilled to welcome his family into our program and can't wait to support Guy's growth as a player and person."
Den Ouden will join the Waves with an impressive ITF Juniors resume, where he is currently ranked at a career-high #46. The highly sought-after 18-year-old won the Netherlands U18 National Indoor Junior Championships and the Outdoors/Indoors U16 championships.
"I chose Pepperdine because of the special connection I have with the coaches. That was the biggest factor for me, but I also think Pepperdine as a program offers the best place for me and it's a great fit," Den Ouden said.
Den Ouden joins the 19
th-ranked Waves, that ended the 2020 dual season at 11-0 as the last remaining undefeated team in the nation.
Adrian Oetzbach and
Tim Zeitvogel went undefeated in dual singles, as Oetzbach, a senior last season, decided to return to Malibu in the fall to compete for the Waves after getting cut short in early March.
