RECAP
Starting off a day of tie-breakers and extra sets in doubles action, Pepperdine had to rebound from a loss on court three to have a say in the doubles point. Evan Shamlian and Tim Zeitvogel did just that, defeating OU's Stewart and Martinez 7-5 to make way for Adrian Oetzbach and Daniel De Jonge on court one. The pair took their match in nail-biting fashion, going 7-6(4) over Bertsch and Emburgh to earn the doubles point for the Waves.
Â
In singles, the Waves fell first on court six, but was followed by De Jonge on court one, taking his first set into a tie break 7-6(2) but then dusting Emburgh in the second set 6-0 to make the overall score 2-1 for Pepperdine. Zeitvogel had a scare early in his match as he dropped his first set 3-6 to Martinez, but stormed back and snatched the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 for an overall 3-1 score.
Â
After a hiccup on court five, Oetzbach was next in line to finish a monster second set after winning the first in a tie-break 7-6(5). OU's Mandlik didn't go quietly, however, as he came back in the second to push it into a tie-breaker where the match was on the line for the Waves. The two went neck-and-neck until Oetzbach finally went up two on Mandlik, going 7-6(10-8) to remain undefeated on the season and clinch the match for the Waves at 4-2 before a Pepperdine loss on court two to make the overall final score 4-3.
