LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Led by
Sahith Theegala's 7-under 65, the Pepperdine men's golf team had a terrific bounce-back second round on Monday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, moving up six spots to sixth place.
The Waves have a two-day total of 587 (304-283) at the par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club. Pepperdine's score of 5-under today tied the best score of the day – only four teams finished below-par today – and was 21 shots better than the day before.
Pepperdine, ranked #1 by Golfstat, is one of the seven top-10 teams at the tournament, annually one of the nation's best.
PLAYER SCORES
- Senior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) was flawless on Monday and tamed the windy conditions with seven birdies and zero miscues. He moved up 33 spots in the standings and up to a tie for fourth place with a 3-under 141 (76-65). He opened with five pars, then had birdies on five of the next seven holes, and closed with birdies on two of the final four holes.
- Freshman William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 19th place at 146 (75-71). His 1-under round included three birdies, all on his first nine holes.
- Sophomore Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) is tied for 22nd at 147 (76-71). His 1-under featured two birdies.
- Junior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 61st at 153 (77-76). He had one birdie today.
- Freshman Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for 66th at 154 (77-77). He had two birdies today.
- Playing as an individual, sophomore Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 39th at 150 (77-73). He had three birdies today.
UP NEXT
Pepperdine is paired with UCLA and Texas Tech for Tuesday's third and final round. They'll start on the first tee at 9:50 a.m. College Golf Live will have live streaming at Golfweek.com from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
