Barbara Sitanggan of the Pepperdine women's basketball broke a 25-year old Pepperdine record when she dished out her 453rd career assist in Saturday's 79-61 win over Santa Clara. She passed Aimee McDaniel as the all-time assists leader at Pepperdine.
The Waves (13-10, 7-6 WCC) led the Broncos (9-14, 3-9 WCC) by as many as 19 in the game, bringing their conference record back to over .500.
BIG WAVES
- Senior guard Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) had 16 points, shooting 5-for-5 from the field and 2-for-2 from three. She also had nine assists en route to setting the all-time assists record for Pepperdine women's basketball. She also added four steals.
- Graduate transfer guard Hannah Friend (San Clemente, Calif./Sacramento State) led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the field and 4-for-7 from three. She also led the field in rebounds with eight.
- Junior forward Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia/Maribyrnong Secondary College) had 13 points and five rebounds.
- Redshirt-freshman guard Jayla Ruffus-Milner (North Hills, Calif./Harvard-Westlake HS) was the fourth Wave in double-digits, scoring 11 points.
The Waves struck first in the quarter and kept it up throughout the period. Friend led all scorers in the first, notching 11 points and shooting 3-for-3 from the three-point line. Sitanggan had five of her xx assists in the first. Pepperdine led 23-25 at the end of 10 minutes.
In the second, the two teams traded baskets until halfway through the quarter, when a jumper from Andriuolo started a 6-2 Waves run. The basket also signified Sitanggan's place in the record books, as she assisted on the bucket to record her record-453rd career assist. With 2:31 left in the half, the Waves again went on a run, scoring six points in a row to take a 45-41 lead into the halftime break. Friend led all scorers with 16 points in the half.
The Waves began the third quarter with a 10-point run including three pointers from both Friend and Sitanggan. Pepperdine held the Broncos to just five points in the quarter, taking a 62-46 lead into the final 10 minutes. The two teams traded baskets in the final quarter, with each team scoring 15 points.

- The Waves also brought down more rebounds, 37, compared to the Broncos' 31.
- Pepperdine shot 50% from beyond the three-point line and 60.9% from the free throw line.
