WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – Sahith Theegala of the Pepperdine men's golf team set a new program record with his 69th career below-par round, and his 6-under 66 put him into a tie for fourth place following Thursday's first round at the Amer Ari Invitational.
The Waves are in seventh place as a team after a 7-under 281 at the par-72 Waikoloa Kings Course. They're seven shots out of the lead.

- Senior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) entered the day tied with Michael Putman atop the career list for rounds below-par and went quickly to work breaking the record with an eagle on the second hole, his first of two on the day. Theegala would also post three birdies en route to his 6-under. He's two shots back of the individual lead.
- Freshman William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 38th place after a 1-under 71. He had three of his five birdies on the first six holes.
- Junior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is tied for 51st after an even-par 72. He had three birdies.
- Freshman Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for 51st after an even-par 72. He had five birdies.
- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for 63rd after a 73. He had an eagle on the par-4 fifth hole.
- Sophomore Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 80th after a 74. He had five birdies.
UP NEXT
Friday's second round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. HT. The Waves will be paired with Texas Tech, Auburn and Oregon.
