#17 Waves Host #4 Texas, Head to #8 UCLA This Weekend

MALIBU, Calif. – The #17 Pepperdine women's tennis team will play host to #4 Texas on Friday in Malibu and travel to #8 UCLA on Saturday for an ITA Top 20 weekend in SoCal.

SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS
#4 Texas currently stands 8-2 on the season, accruing wins over then-#8 NC State, #22 Georgia Tech and #12 Ohio State. The Longhorns won their respective ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a pair of sweeps to send them to the National Team Indoors, where they dropped their opening round match to then-#9 (now #2) Florida State. Texas most recently comes off of a 4-3 loss to #12 Stanford at home.

Austin is home to ranked singles players #3 Anna Turati, #26 Bianca Turati and #61 Lexi Ryngler, as well as doubles with the Turati twins clocking in at #20.

All-time, Pepperdine stands 12-14 with UT, as the Waves visited Austin last season and left with a 5-2 win.

SCOUTING THE BRUINS
#8 UCLA had quite the trip to Chicago for the ITA National Indoor championships as they defeated #9 Florida State and #1 Stanford followed by an end to their run in the finals by #2 North Carolina- the Bruins' only loss this season. Previously, UCLA beat WCC foes LMU and Saint Mary's 4-0 and 7-0 respectively.

The Bruins have four ranked singles players in #8 Abigail Forbes, #12 Elysia Bolton, #19 Jada Hart and #114 Annette Goulak, as well as the #1 doubles pair in Bolton and Hart.

The Waves and Bruins have a historic rivalry where UCLA has the upper hand with 14 all-time Pepperdine wins and 55 total UCLA wins. The Waves took both matches last season 4-0 at Ralphs-Straus and 4-3 in Los Angeles. Â

After a 5-0 win over then-#45 Cal, the #17 Waves will look to prove their worth in the ITA rankings with an upset over Texas. In that most recent match, the Waves found their stride in doubles competition as Daria Kuczer and Lisa Zaar won first on court three, followed by Ashley Lahey and Astrid Olsen on court two to clinch the point. It was all Pepperdine in singles play as #45 Anastasia Iamachkine clinched on court five over #28 Valentina Ivanov to earn her second-straight WCC Player of the Week honors.
