JURUPA VALLEY, California – Joshua McCarthy of the Pepperdine men's golf team, competing as an individual at The Joust at Goose Creek, brought home a second-place finish on Tuesday.
 
McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) shot a 2-over 212 (70-69-73) over the two days at the par-70 Goose Creek Golf Club. He finished four shots back of the winner, Witchayapat Sinnsrang of Omaha.
 
He had a total of eight birdies and one eagle over the course of the tournament. Monday morning's first-round even-par included three birdies. Monday afternoon's second-round 1-under featured four birdies, all of which came in a seven-hole span. He had one birdie and an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole during Tuesday's final round.
 
McCarthy's 56th career below-par round on Monday gave him sole possession of the third place on the Waves' all-time list and broke a tie with head coach 
Michael Beard. He added to his career totals of 16 top-10 finishes and 29 top-20 finishes, which rank ninth and seventh, respectively, in Pepperdine history.
 
Pepperdine's next team event is the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, which runs Sunday through Tuesday (March 1-3).
