TEMP, Ariz. – Aharon Modlin drove a ball to deep left-center and over the wall in the, giving the Pepperdine baseball team its third win in as many days, defeating Oregon 8-5.

The Waves (3-0) trailed the Ducks (0-3) for six innings before Modlin hit the first home run by a Wave on the year in the top of the ninth inning. Shane Telfer then came in and shut the door on the Ducks to secure the victory.

BIG WAVES

Senior infielder Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) went 2-for-5 on the day with two RBI, coming on the go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth.
Junior utility Billy Cook (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer HS) went 3-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice.
Senior catcher Joe Caparis (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) went 2-for-4 on the day, driving in two runs and scoring twice.

GAME RECAP
The Waves got on the board in the first inning, thanks to a bases-loaded walk drawn by Joe Caparis. Cook scored after he singled and moved to third thanks to a single from Aharon Modlin and a walk from Justin Lutes. After one complete inning, the Waves led 1-0.

In the second, the Ducks got their first run thanks to a sacrifice fly. The run, however, was unearned after an error. Pepperdine and Oregon were locked at one going into the third inning.

After a quiet third, Oregon loaded the bases after two batters were hit by pitches. Two runs were brought in on a single into right. After the bases were loaded again, another single through the right side brought in two more runs for the Ducks. They led 5-1 after four innings.

The Waves strung together three straight singles, capped by a single from Ryan Johnson to score Caparis from second. Wyatt Young then singled to bring in Quintt Landis. After a pitching change, Cook got the Waves' fourth single in a row to score Johnson and cut the Ducks' lead down to 5-4 after six innings.

In the ninth, Cook singled into left field with one out before Modlin smashed a ball into deep left-center field and over the wall for a two-run home run to take a 6-5 lead. Alexiades then doubled down the line and was driven in by Caparis, who singled. After another single from Landis and a walk, Ryan Johnson walked with the bases loaded to score Caparis and give the Waves an 8-6 lead, which would prove insurmountable.

After Trevor Kniskern (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pompano Beach HS) started the game, Josiah Castillo (Corona, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS) came in trailing 5-1 and didn't give up a run in three innings of work. Jack Chester (Austin, Texas/Hyde Park HS)came into the game in the bottom of the seventh, and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, throwing to one batter in the ninth before Telfer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) came in for the save. Chester picked up his first collegiate win, as he was on the mound when the Waves mounted the ninth-inning comeback.

The Waves hit the road on Tuesday, traveling to Cal Poly for the first midweek matchup of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. in San Luis Obispo.
