Waves End Non-Conference With Loss to CSUB

MALIBU, California – Little went right for the Pepperdine men's basketball team on Wednesday afternoon as the Waves closed out non-conference play with a 79-51 home loss to CSU Bakersfield.
 
The Waves (4-5) never led against the Roadrunners (4-3).
 
BIG WAVES
  • Sophomore guard Sedrick Altman (Rialto, Calif./Colony HS) had a team-high 11 points along with five rebounds.
  • Senior guard Colbey Ross (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS) had 10 points, four assists and two steals.
  • Freshman forward Kendall Munson (Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS) had nine points and team highs of six rebounds and three blocks.
KEY STATS 
  • The Waves shot a season-low 33.3% from the field while the Roadrunners were at 51.5%, a season high by an opponent.
  • Pepperdine was outrebounded 45-22. CSUB had 18 offensive rebounds and a 22-10 edge in second-chance points.
  • Turnovers were nearly even but CSUB had a 23-7 edge in points off turnovers.
  • CSU Bakersfield got a game-high 20 points from De'Monte Buckingham and 14 points and 16 rebounds from Ronne Readus.
PLAY BY PLAY
 
CSU Bakersfield scored the first six points of the game and the only tie of the contest came when the Waves evened it up at 9-9. At 19-17, the Roadrunners went on an 11-1 run to make it 30-18, and it was 39-29 at halftime. Pepperdine scored the first two points of the second half, but CSUB scored the next four and kept the lead in double-digits for the rest of the game, and went up by as many as 29 late.
