MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's water polo team added its first athlete to the 2021 freshman class on Thursday, signing Kyle Thomas, head coach Terry Schroeder announced.
Thomas is a left-handed attacker from Covina, Calif., who adds to the Thomas name at Pepperdine, as his older brother Sean played on the team from 2015-19.
At Loyola High School, Thomas was named to the All-Mission League after helping his team earn a third-place finish during his junior year in 2019. He also played for Trojan Water Polo Club, finishing third place at the Junior Olympics, and was named to the All-American team at the tournament.
"We are excited to add Kyle Thomas as the first of our talented incoming freshman next year," said Schroeder. "Kyle is a talented left-handed athlete that already possesses a high-level Division one shot. Kyle will give us power and depth on the 4/5 side of the pool. We have great history with the Thomas family – his brother Sean graduated in 2019. We are excited about Kyle's character and ability to add to the chemistry of our team. Kyle is an athlete that has the potential to help lead us to an NCAA championship and be a part of Team USA in the future."
Thomas stated that he chose Pepperdine because of "the great culture and academics it has to offer. I am looking to continue the legacy my brother has started and hopefully start a great and successful career here at Pepperdine."
The Waves are coming off a season in which they won the Golden Coast Conference and reached the semifinal round at the NCAA Championships.
