MALIBU, California – Colbey Ross and
Kessler Edwards have been named to the All-West Coast Conference preseason team while the Pepperdine men's basketball team has been picked fourth in the coaches' poll.
Pepperdine and Gonzaga were the only two schools to put multiple players on the 10-man list.
Ross (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS), a senior guard, earned All-WCC first team status as a sophomore and junior and was honorable mention as a freshman. He already holds Pepperdine's all-time assist record (with 647, he has more career assists entering 2020-21 than any NCAA player, men's or women's) and he's 23 points away from the career scoring record as well. Last season, Ross averaged 20.5 points, 7.2 assists and 4.7 rebounds – only the ninth time in the last 25+ years a Division I player has averaged at least 20/7/4 in those categories. He's ranked sixth nationally in assists each of the last two years.
Edwards (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS), a junior forward, made the WCC All-Freshman team two years ago and was picked to the All-WCC second team last season. He led the conference in blocked shots (1.9) and finished 13th in scoring (13.8) and fourth in rebounding (7.5). After just two seasons, he already ranks 10th all-time in blocked shots at Pepperdine with 94. He should become Pepperdine's 44th player to score 1,000 career points this season.
Pepperdine returns three starters and seven of the top nine scorers from last season. A total of 11 returning players have seen previous action for the Waves. Last season, Pepperdine went 16-16 and finished in sixth place in the WCC at 8-8.
