WESTLAKE VILLAGE, California – With close to two rounds complete at the Southwestern Invitational, the Pepperdine men's golf team has opened up a seven-shot lead at its own tournament on Monday.
Six teams finished before darkness set in at the par-72 North Ranch Country Club, but the other six teams – including Pepperdine – were unable to complete the second round. With 12-18 holes done, Pepperdine is at 3-under, with USC at 4-over. Arizona State is third and in the clubhouse at 8-over.
PLAYER SCORES -- TEAM
- Senior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) is tied for second place at 4-under through 12 holes. He had a 2-under 70 in the first round with six birdies.
- Junior Joey Vrzich (El Cajon, Calif./Christian HS/Nevada) is in sixth place at 1-under through 12 holes. He was tied for the tournament lead after the first round with a 3-under 69, which included four birdies.
- Sophomore Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 10th place at 1-over through 15 holes. He was tied with Vrzich for the lead after the first round with a 3-under 69, which featured five birdies.
- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for 20th place with a 3-over 147 (76-71). He's the only Wave in the lineup who finished all 36 holes on Monday. His second-round 1-under included an eagle and three birdies.
- Senior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) is tied for 37th at 6-over through 15 holes. He had a 76 in the first round with an eagle and three birdies.

- Junior RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for seventh place at even-par through 12 holes. He had an even-par 72 in the first round with three birdies.
- Freshman William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 14th at 2-over through nine holes. He had a 74 in the first round with two birdies.
- Freshman Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for 14th at 2-over through 12 holes. He had a 76 in the first round with two birdies.
- Junior Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) is tied for 25th at 4-over through 12 holes. He had a 75 in the first round with two birdies.
- Sophomore Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 40th at 7-over through 12 holes. His first-round 75 had three birdies.
UP NEXT
The second round will resume at 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday. After its completion, teams will be re-paired for the third round and there will be tee times off 1 and 10 beginning at approximately 9:45 a.m.
