#6 Women's Tennis Wins ITA Kick-Off Weekend

MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 6 Pepperdine women's tennis team defeated Arkansas 4-1 on Sunday afternoon to win the 2020 ITA Kick-Off hosted at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

The #6 Waves kicked off the day a bit slower than usual, dropping the doubles point to the Razorbacks. Daria Kuczer and Lisa Zaar brought home the lone doubles win in No. 3 doubles, going 6-2 over Thea Rice and Laura Rijkers before Nos. 1 and 2 dipped 6-4, 6-3.

The 1-0 lead did not phase Pepperdine, however, as they surged back in singles play. Finishing first was freshman Astrid Olsen on court four, going 6-2, 6-0 over Laura Alter. The #1 Ashley Lahey took a 6-3, 6-1 win on court one before #62 Anastasia Iamachkine gave the Waves a 3-1 lead after beating #109 Jackie Carr 6-3, 6-2.

It was #90 Daria Kuczer who clinched the match for Pepperdine, as she defeated Laura Rijkers in a come-from-behind first set and a 6-1 set two on court six.

The #6 Waves will travel to Chicago, Ill. to compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships from Thursday, February 6 to Sunday, February 9 before heading to the central region of the country to take on Oklahoma and Oklahoma State on February 15th and 16th.
