CHICAGO, Ill. – The #6 Pepperdine women's tennis team faltered to #5 Duke in the opening round of the 2020 ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Friday morning, going 4-1 overall.

RECAP
The #6 Waves fought hard through Friday's match, beginning in doubles where Daria Kuczer and Lisa Zaar saw a 6-3 Pepperdine win on court three following a loss on court one to split in doubles. Partners Anastasia Iamachkine and Astrid Olsen fell 6-4 on court two to give the deciding point to the Blue Devils.

In singles, #37 Jessica Failla saw the lone Wave win going 6-1 in the first set and then battled off a comeback effort from Duke's Mansouri, winning 7-6(4) in a tie-breaker to take her respective match and put Pepperdine at 1-2 on the day.

The last two matches went to three sets but ultimately saw Duke wins as Olsen dipped 6-4, 2-6, 1-6 to #89 Chi on court four, followed by #124 Zaar on five who lost to #17 Beck 6-1, 2-6, 4-6 to clinch the match for the Blue Devils at 4-1.

The #6 Waves will take on #11 Virginia Saturday at 7 a.m. PT in the back draw following the Cavaliers' loss to #3 Georgia.
