Waves Win On Senior Day

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swimming team finished their last home meet of the season by honoring their nine seniors and beating Azusa Pacific.
MEET RECAP
The Waves had an outstanding last home meet, sweeping the Cougars in the swimming events. The meet started off with the 3-meter diving competition in which Paulina Holmberg took fourth place. Holmberg was also the leader for the Waves in the 1-meter, taking fifth.

Starting the swimming competition, the team of Caroline Eckel, Emily Morton, Sarah Hamilton and Amy Griffin won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.17. In the 1,000 freestyle race, Sophia Anderson won in a time of 1:17.62. The next event was the 200 freestyle, wherein Sammie Slater took home the victory, swimming a 1:55.15.

Eckel stepped up for another big win in the 100 backstroke, with a 59.30. Senior Anna Riekhof took home two individual titles in the 100 breaststroke at 1:08.34 and the 200 breaststroke tying with a 2:28.46.

Freshman Caroline Anderson had an excellent race winning the 200 butterfly with a 2:10.35. Pepperdine had the top seven spots in the 50 freestyle, led by Jasmine Williams who won with a 24.92. Julianna Birlin was the top swimmer in the 100 freestyle, taking first with a time of 53.66.

Morton took home two individual wins on the day in the 200 backstroke with a 2:06.10 and 400 IM with a 4:33.02. Olivia Kayye had the top 500 time, racing a 5:20.22. Pepperdine had another outstanding performance in the 100 fly, with Nohea Lileikis leading all athletes with a 59.74.

The final race of the day was the 400 freestyle relay, where Birlin, Lileikis, Slater and Griffin won with a time of 3:35.65.

NEXT UP: The Waves will compete in the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships in two weeks. The meet will be held Wednesday, Feb. 12th through Saturday Feb. 15th at East Los Angeles College.
