Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. –
Paige Fecske of the Pepperdine women's basketball team became the 24th member of the 1,000-point club at Pepperdine in the second quarter of Thursday night's 70-34 loss to #13 Gonzaga.
Hannah Friend led the Waves with 15 points.
The Bulldogs (19-1, 8-0 WCC) never let go of the lead, going ahead of the Waves (9-9, 3-5 WCC) by 34 at the end of the game.
BIG WAVES
- Senior guard Hannah Friend (San Clemente, Calif./Sacramento State) had 15 points, shooting 5-14 from the field and making two three-pointers.
- Junior forward Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia/Maribyrnong Secondary College) had eight points and eight rebounds.
- Senior guard Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) had five points, including the three-pointer that put her in the 1,000-point club.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The game started off quickly in the Bulldogs' favor, as they scored the first nine points of the game. Bambrick got the Waves on the board with a three-point basket. Andriuolo and
Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) got the Waves' other two baskets in the first, and the Zags led 20-7 going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was much of the same, as Gonzaga scored the first two baskets. Fecske joined the illustrious 1,000-point club with 3:27 left in the quarter, hitting a corner three to get the score to 35-18.
The second half was all Gonzaga. They outscored the Waves 19-8 in the third and 14-10 in the fourth. Friend had five in the third and six in the fourth.
KEY STATS
- The Bulldogs outshot the Waves 45.3% to 21.5%.
- Gonzaga also shot the three much better, making 35% compared to the 20% by the Waves.
- The boards were all Gonzaga, as they brought down 57 rebounds compared to the 32 by the Waves.
