MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team continued its winning ways on Saturday, defeating San Francisco 82-70 in Firestone Fieldhouse in a West Coast Conference matchup.
Hannah Friend and
Monique Andriuolo led the Waves with 21 and 20 points respectively.
The Waves (9-7, 3-3 WCC) never trailed in the game, leading the Dons (7-01, 0-5 WCC) by as many as 24 points.
BIG WAVES
- Graduate transfer Hannah Friend (San Clemente, Calif./Sacramento State) led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 7-10 from the field including 2-3 from three.
- Junior forward Monique Andriuolo (Melbourne, Australia/Maribyrnong Secondary College) had a fantastic game. She scored 20 points, making seven of her 11 shots, including the only three pointer she took. She also had a career-high five blocks and brought down three rebounds.
- Redshirt-senior guard Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) had 12 points, shooting 2-3 from beyond the arc. She also had three assists.
- Sophomore guard Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) had 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. She shot 2-4 from three-point.
- Senior guard Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) had nine points, six assists and five rebounds.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
After taking an 8-4 lead to start the game, the Waves went on an 8-0 run halfway through the first to take a 16-4 lead with 4:59 left in the quarter. The Dons kept pace from there, but Pepperdine led 23-14 going into the second quarter.
The two teams traded baskets to start the second, but with five minutes left, the Waves went on an 11-point run to end the half with a 47-28 lead.
At the start of the second half three fouls from the Waves gave the Dons free throws. The Waves then hit a couple of jumpers to take a 55-35 lead with seven minutes left. Another six-point run for the Waves later in the quarter resulted in a 61-37 lead, the Waves' largest lead of the game. The Waves took a 64-42 lead into the final ten minutes.
In the fourth, the Dons went on a seven-point run to cut the lead to 69-56. The Dons cut the Waves lead to as little as 10 points, but could not get any closer, as the Waves picked up their second-straight WCC win.
KEY STATS
- The Waves were out-rebounded significantly, as the Dons pulled down 48 rebounds compared to the Waves' 34.
- Pepperdine shot much better from deep, hitting 7-16 from three, the Dons hitting just three three-pointers all game.
- The Waves were aggressive on defense, and it worked, resulting in forcing 15 turnovers, while giving the ball away just nine times.

The Waves have a full week to prepare for the next WCC matchup, a PCH Cup game against rival Loyola Marymount. The game is set for a 5 p.m. tip next Saturday.
