OLYMPIA FIELDS, Illinois – The Pepperdine men's golf team turned in an impressive third-place finish at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday behind top-four finishes by
William Mouw and
Sahith Theegala.
The Waves finished with a three-day total of 849 (280-287-282) at the par-70 Olympia Fields Country Club.
Pepperdine, #2 in Golfweek's preseason rankings, finished three shots behind #4 Georgia Tech and #18 Baylor. The Waves finished ahead of #1 Texas, #9 Illinois, #14 North Carolina, #20 Texas A&M and #27 Florida State.

- Freshman William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) took third place with a 1-under 209 (71-68-70). His college career has begun with a pair of top-10 finishes. During his even-par round today, he recorded nine straight pars, then had three birdies and three bogeys on the back nine. Mouw recorded 12 birdies over three days, tied for most in the field. He was 4-under on par-5s, also tied for best in the tournament.
- Senior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) tied for fourth place with an even-par 210 (68-73-69). He had four birdies during Sunday's round of 1-under, three of which came on the back nine.
- Sophomore Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for 17th at 214 (69-71-74). He had one birdie in the final round.
- Sophomore Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) tied for 42nd at 219 (72-76-71). He had two birdies in the final round.
- Junior RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) tied for 47th at 220 (73-75-72). He had one birdie today.
UP NEXT
Some individuals will compete at Fresno State's Nick Watney Invitational from Sept. 30-Oct. 1, while the next team event is California's Alister MacKenzie Invitational from Oct. 7-8.
