OLYMPIA FIELDS, Illinois – Sahith Theegala and
Joe Highsmith helped get the Pepperdine men's golf team off to a terrific start at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Friday, as the Waves are in second place after the first round.
The Waves shot an even-par 280 at the par-70 Olympia Fields Country Club, putting them two shots back of Georgia Tech.
PLAYER SCORES
- Senior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) is tied for second place after a 2-under 68. He had three birdies in his first seven holes and finished with four on the day.
- Sophomore Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for seventh place after a 1-under 69. He recorded five birdies, including three in one four-hole stretch.
- Freshman William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS) is tied for 21st with a 71. He posted five birdies, and also had three over a four-hole period.
- Sophomore Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for 38th after a 72. He recorded three birdies.
- Junior RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) is tied for 47th after a 73. He had two birdies.

The Waves will be paired up with Georgia Tech and Texas for Saturday's second round. They'll start on the first tee at 9:30 a.m. CT.
