Men's Golf Takes Fourth at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – Led by strong showings by Joe Highsmith, William Mouw and Sahith Theegala, the Pepperdine men's golf team wrapped up a fourth-place finish at the season-opening Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Sunday.

The Waves had a three-day total of a 25-under 815 (270-269-276) – tying the eighth-best score in program history – at the par-70 Mirabel Golf Club.

The Waves entered the final day of competition in fourth place, and though their final-round 4-under closed the gap a little bit, they couldn't catch Arizona State, Arizona and Clemson.

PLAYER SCORES
  • Sophomore Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) was Pepperdine's top player in the NCAA postseason last year and he's continued his strong play into this season, with an 8-under 202 (70-65-67) that tied him for eighth place. He had four birdies and just one bogey in the final round. Highsmith was tied for 42nd after the first round but made a big climb.
  • Freshman William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS), playing in his first college tournament, had quite the debut as he also tied for eighth place with an 8-under 202 (67-67-68). He had five birdies today and had a team-best 15 over the three days.
  • Senior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS), playing in his first college tournament in 16 months after redshirting last season, tied for 15th place with a 6-under 204 (65-70-69). He had two birdies and an eagle in his final round.
