SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – Led by strong showings by 
Joe Highsmith, 
William Mouw and 
Sahith Theegala, the Pepperdine men's golf team wrapped up a fourth-place finish at the season-opening Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Sunday.
 
The Waves had a three-day total of a 25-under 815 (270-269-276) – tying the eighth-best score in program history – at the par-70 Mirabel Golf Club.
 
The Waves entered the final day of competition in fourth place, and though their final-round 4-under closed the gap a little bit, they couldn't catch Arizona State, Arizona and Clemson.
 
PLAYER SCORES
	- Sophomore Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) was Pepperdine's top player in the NCAA postseason last year and he's continued his strong play into this season, with an 8-under 202 (70-65-67) that tied him for eighth place. He had four birdies and just one bogey in the final round. Highsmith was tied for 42nd after the first round but made a big climb.
 
	- Freshman William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS), playing in his first college tournament, had quite the debut as he also tied for eighth place with an 8-under 202 (67-67-68). He had five birdies today and had a team-best 15 over the three days.
 
	- Senior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS), playing in his first college tournament in 16 months after redshirting last season, tied for 15th place with a 6-under 204 (65-70-69). He had two birdies and an eagle in his final round.
 
	- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) tied for 33rd with a 1-under 209 (68-68-73). He had four birdies on Sunday.
 
	- Senior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) tied for 45th at 212 (71-69-72). He had three birdies in the final round.
 
INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT
 
Additionally, three Waves competed in the accompanying Mea Lanakila Individual tournament, being held at the par-72 Desert Forest Golf Club: 
	- Sophomore Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) tied for third place with a 5-under 211 (72-70-69).
 
	- Junior RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) tied for eighth with an even-par 216 (71-74-71).
 
	- Freshman Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) tied for eighth with an even-par 216 (73-69-74).
 
UP NEXT
 
Pepperdine's second tournament is the Fighting Illini Invitational in Olympia Fields, Ill., next weekend (Sept. 20-22).
