SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – Playing his first college round in 16 months, 
Sahith Theegala of the Pepperdine men's golf team fired a 5-under 65 to lead the Waves in the season-opening first round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Friday.
 
The Waves are in sixth place after a 10-under 270 at the par-70 Mirabel Golf Club, eight shots behind leader Arizona State.
 
PLAYER SCORES
	- Senior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS), a two-time All-American, redshirted last season with a wrist injury. After some positive summer results, he's back, and he's currently tied for sixth place after his 5-under 65 that included five birdies and zero bogeys. Four of his birdies came on his back nine.
 
	- Freshman William Mouw (Chino, Calif./Ontario Christian HS), making his college debut, is tied for 15th place after a 3-under 67. He had four birdies on the day.
 
	- Senior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for 20th after a 2-under 68. He had three birdies.
 
	- Sophomore Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 42nd after an even-par 70. He had three bogeys in his first nine holes, and then three birdies on his last nine, including each of his final two holes.
 
	- Senior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) is tied for 49th after a 1-over 71 that included three birdies.
 
INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT
 
Additionally, three Waves are competing in the accompanying Mea Lanakila Individual tournament, being held at the par-72 Desert Forest Golf Club: 
	- Junior RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) is tied for fifth after a 1-under 71.
 
	- Sophomore Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) is tied for seventh after an even-par 72.
 
	- Freshman Dylan Menante (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek HS) is tied for ninth after a 1-over 73.

The Waves will be paired with Arizona State and USC for round two, which begins at 8:20 a.m. on the first tee.
