#6 Waves Conclude Season in NCAA Quarterfinals

ORLANDO, Fla. - Â The sixth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team won the doubles point before falling 4-1 to third-ranked Stanford in the NCAA Quarterfinals Friday afternoon.

The Waves finish the 2018-2019 season at 24-4 overall, going undefeated for the third-straight year and winning the regular season title for the eighth-straight, as they went on to win their seventh-straight WCC Tournament championship.

Throughout the season, Pepperdine remained in the ITA's top 30 rankings, as they recorded non-conference wins over #10 Syracuse, #10 Northwestern, #6/#8 UCLA, #41 Rice, #8 Texas, #38 San Diego and # 13 USC.

The #6 Waves came out hot in doubles play, where the #41 pair of Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine took the feet out from under the #19 tandem of Caroline Lampl and Kimberly Yee 6-1. The 86th-ranked Daria Kuczer and Ashley Lahey stifled a comeback from the 29th-ranked pair of Emily Arbuthnott and Michaela Gordon with a score of 6-4 and clinching the doubles point for Pepperdine.

Up 1-0, the Waves took to singles in the 90-degree Florida heat. Playing against all-ranked Cardinal players, Pepperdine struggled to break the wall. The #37 Lahey added a bright spot, however, winning 6-4 in her first set. Court five, six and two saw the first three points go to Stanford, while #53 Failla and Dzina Milovanovic provided a stalemate, fighting to keep the Waves alive as the Cardinal led 3-1.

Stanford then took court four 6-1, 6-4 to end Pepperdine's season in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

The loss marks the last match in a Waves uniform for Jessica Failla, Adrijana Lekaj and Dzina Milovanovic.
