Waves Split in NCAA Singles Competition

ORLANDO, Fla. – The 37th-ranked Ashley Lahey and 53rd-ranked Jessica Failla of the #6 Pepperdine women's tennis team began competition in the NCAA Singles Tournament on Monday morning at the USTA National Campus.

#37 Ashley Lahey (PEPP) vs #23 Meghan Kelley (UVA) 6-3, 6-0
#21 Kelly Chen (UNC) vs #53 Jessica Failla (PEPP) 6-2, 6-4

Lahey grabbed a commanding 6-3, 6-0 win over the No. 23 player in the country in Meghan Kelley of the University of Virginia, while Failla unfortunately bowed out of competition 6-2, 6-4 by the hands of No. 21 Kelly Chen of University of North Carolina fame after a tough fight in her second set.

The 53rd-ranked senior concludes her season at 18-6 overall in singles, going 8-0 over the span of her last completed matches while going 19-9 and being ranked 41st in doubles with partner Anastasia Iamachkine.

UP NEXT
Lahey will take on North Carolina's Alexa Graham tomorrow, who is currently ranked 7th in the country after beating Ellie Douglas from TCU 6-2, 5-7, 7-5. The start time for the match is still to be determined, as all matches must be completed to begin assigning court times.
