Waves Looking Good Through Two Rounds at NCAA Regional

AUSTIN, Texas – Tuesday's second-round score at the NCAA Austin Regional wasn't quite as good as the first for the Pepperdine men's golf team, but the Waves still find themselves in an excellent position as they attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

The Waves are tied for second place with a two-day total of an even-par 568 (278-290) at the par-71 University of Texas Golf Club. The top five teams will advance to nationals, and the Waves will head into the final round 10 shots better than the sixth-place team. Pepperdine began the day tied for first but the host Longhorns shot 10-under to take a commanding lead.

Joshua McCarthy and Joe Highsmith are tied for the individual lead along with three Texas players, all with 4-under 138s.

Pepperdine, the 1997 NCAA champion, is trying to make it to the NCAA Championships for the 10th time in program history. The Waves last made it in 2017. Pepperdine is the #3 seed among the 14 teams at this regional.

PLAYER SCORES
- Freshman Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) had the Waves' lone sub-par round of the day, a 1-under 70 that moved him into a share of the lead with a 4-under 138 (68-70). He had four birdies, including three in a four-hole stretch on the back nine.
- Junior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) had an even-par 71 to put him at 138 (67-71). He was 3-over after six holes but birdied 7, 13 and 14 and made no mistakes the rest of the way. McCarthy's 11 birdies over two days lead all players.
- Sophomore RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) is tied for 28th at 146 (71-75). He had one birdie on Tuesday.
- Junior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is tied for 33rd at 147 (73-74). He had three birdies, all on the back nine.
- Senior Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) is also tied for 33rd at 147 (72-75). He had three birdies on the day.
