Waves Dip at #13 UCLA

WESTWOOD, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's tennis team took a hard fought 4-1 loss to 13th-ranked UCLA on Tuesday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Waves will look for redemption against two ranked opponents, No. 38 BYU and No. 28 San Diego, on Saturday and Sunday.

Pepperdine started out in doubles play, were UCLA took both matches from the Waves to get a 1-0 start.

In singles, the Waves struggled to catch a run, dropping the first two completed matches before Matias Sborowitz grabbed a comeback victory against Ben Goldberg on court four in an extra set, going 1-6, 6-4 and 6-3. Tim Zeitvogel took his match into three sets over Matthew Tsolakyan but it was eventually abandoned due to UCLA clinching the match, 4-1.

The Waves return home to welcome WCC foes No. 38 BYU on Saturday and No. 28 San Diego on Sunday, both at 1 p.m. No. 42 BYU currently stands 17-3 overall, going 6-1 in conference where their only loss came 4-2 at Gonzaga. San Diego stands 15-4 and 5-1 in WCC play as well, where BYU handed them their only loss.
