#6 Pepperdine Travels to WCC Championships

MALIBU, Calif. - The #6 Pepperdine women's tennis team begins the postseason push at the West Coast Conference Championships in Claremont, Calif. on Friday and Saturday. The Waves open the tournament as the top-seed and have earned a bye through the first round.
WCC CHAMPIONSHIP: Friday-Saturday (April 26-27), #6 Pepperdine (19-3, 9-0 WCC) | West Coast Conference Championships at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. | Semifinal match versus the winner of #4-seeded Saint Mary's and #5-seeded LMU at 10 a.m. in Friday.

CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD: After going 9-0 through WCC action this season, the Waves once against earned the #1-seed and received a bye through the first round of tournament play. San Diego picked up the #2 seed, while Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, Loyola Marymount and Santa Clara round out the 3-6 seeds.
WCC CHAMPIONSHIPS: A HISTORY: The Waves secured the team's eighth-consecutive regular season title with the wins last weekend against San Francisco and Santa Clara. In the 33-year history of West Coast Conference women's tennis, Pepperdine has captured the tournament crown on 28 occasions, including a run of 14-straight titles from 1988-2001. The Waves then put together a streak of seven-straight titles from 2003-09 and is currently on a six-year streak of winning the tournament crown from 2013-18. Pepperdine has posted a remarkable 63-3 (.954) record in tournament play since the dual-match format was established in 1995.
POSTSEASON HONORS: The Waves earned multiple WCC honors to first and second teams. Ashley Lahey and Adrijana Lekaj were both named to the All-WCC first team, while Jessica Failla and Dzina Milovanovic earned All-WCC second team and Anastasia Iamachkine and Daria Kuczer received an honorable mention nod. In doubles, the pairs of Iamachkine and Failla and Lahey and Kuczer both picked up a second team honor.
THE WAVES: Throughout the regular season, Pepperdine posted a 19-3 overall record, including an untarnished 9-0 record against West Coast Conference opponents. The Waves have gone 8-1 at home, 10-1 on the road and 1-1 on neutral courts this season.
As a team, the Waves have produced an 68-24 record in singles dual action for a .739 winning percentage, including a 12-3 record in the No. 1 position. Ashley Lahey leads in the No. 1 position going 10-3, with Adrijana Lekaj going 2-0 in the No.1 position and 5-6 in the No. 2 spot. Pepperdine has gone 9-7 in the No. 2 position, 9-5 in the No. 3 location, 14-2 in the No. 4 position, 12-3 in the No. 5 spot and 12-4 in the No. 6 slot.
In dual action, Lekaj has amassed the most team wins with a 12-6 output. Anastasia Iamachkine has the second highest record going 11-1 and is currently on an 11-match winning streak. Lahey and Dzina Milovanovic both hold a 10-3 record in dual play, respectively. Daria Kuczer has a 9-3 record this season and has won the last nine-consecutive matches.
In doubles action, Pepperdine has put in a 37-16 overall dual record for a .698 winning percentage, with the No. 1 pair going 12-6, No. 2 going 14-4 and No. 3 going 11-6 this season. At No. 1, Failla and Iamachkine lead with a 5-4 record. Lahey and Kuczer have spent time together in the No. 2 position for an 8-1 record and three pairings have played at No. 3 with Lahey and Lekaj leading with an 8-3 record this season.
LAST WEEK: The Waves won two games last week, defeating both San Francisco and Santa Clara 4-1 at home to clinch their eighth-consecutive WCC regular season title.
In doubles against San Francisco, the Waves picked up wins from the pairs of Milovanovic and Lekaj with the clinch coming from Lahey and Kuczer on court one. The Waves secured the win with singles wins from #33-ranked Lahey, Milovanovic, and Satsuki Takamura.
Against Santa Clara, the Waves posted doubles wins form Milovnaovic and Lekaj and Lahey and Kuczer. The match was clinched with singles wins from #92-ranked Lekaj, Milovanovic, and Kuczer.
OPPONENTS: The Waves have posted a 44-1 record against West Coast Conference opponents in the last five seasons, including four uncontested 9-0 campaigns in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
WEEKLY ACCOLADES: The Waves have earned nine West Coast Conference weekly honors this season thus far. Ashley Lahey has picked up three player of the week honors this season on February 12, February 26, and March 19. Jessica Failla and Adrijana Lekaj have also picked up singles player of the week honors on February 19 and April 2, respectively. In doubles, Pepperdine has picked up four weekly honors from four different pairings.
